Yerevan, Armenia - On June 22, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern and Armenia's Chief of Police Lieutenant-General Vladimir Gasparian officially opened a Firing Range facility donated by the U.S. Government to Armenia's law enforcement community.

The construction of the facility, which cost $760,000, was provided by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.   The firing range is equipped with a 50-meter-long range with moving targets, service rooms, and administrative offices.  The Armenian Police will operate and maintain the firing range, but it is designed to be used by personnel from all of Armenia's law enforcement agencies.

This donation is part of a comprehensive U.S. Government law enforcement and criminal justice assistance program that aims to develop the ability of Armenian law enforcement structures to combat crime and administer justice according to international standards and best practices.

The U.S. Government annually provides approximately $3 million in law enforcement and criminal justice assistance to Armenia.
