U.S. Embassy Presents Guitar Virtuoso Stanley Jordan, August 10-12
August 10, 2009
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that it will showcase guitar virtuoso and jazz fusion musician Stanley Jordan from August 10-12, 2009.
Musical original Stanley Jordan has been hailed as one of the most gifted guitarists of his generation. From the moment he made his debut in 1985 with the gold-selling Grammy-nominated album Magic Touch, Jordan has been an innovative force in the world of progressive instrumental music. With his nimbly executed “touch” or “tap” technique, which allows him to play rhythm and melody simultaneously, Jordan has expertly weaved classical, jazz and rock influences together to spread his message of atonement and harmony. With his groundbreaking new album, State Of Nature, Stanley Jordan takes another bold step by using his music to describe the fundamental relationship between nature and humankind. The group also features Eddy Barattini, on drums, and Zirque Bonner on bass. Stanley Jordan is managed by Vernon H. Hammond III.
Stanley Jordan will perform at the Opera Theater in Yerevan on August 12 at 8:00 p.m. The concert is open to the public and free of charge. Tickets may be picked up at the Opera Theater box office.
This marks the 8th year that the U.S. Embassy in Armenia has featured accomplished American jazz musicians and highlights the mutual appreciation of jazz in both countries. The U.S. Embassy previously sponsored the jazz ensemble Alvin Atkinson and the Sound Merchants in March of this year. Stanley Jordan is performing in Armenia as part of a regional tour. The U.S. Embassy is collaborating with Armenian Jazz 70 on Jordan's performance in Yerevan.
